Delicious Pecan Pie Recipe

Pecan pie is the ultimate Southern dessert, and it’s a must-have at holiday dinners. If you’ve never made pecan pie before, don’t worry—we have all the information you need to bake this delicious treat. This recipe will show you how to make a classic pecan pie from start to finish, including how to make the perfect crust and filling. Let’s get started!

Making The Crust
The first step in making pecan pie is making the perfect crust. The ingredients for our crust include 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of salt, 3/4 cup of vegetable shortening or lard, 3/4 cup salted butter cut into pieces, 1 egg lightly beaten, and 1 tablespoon distilled white vinegar.

To begin making your dough, combine the flour and salt in a bowl until they are evenly distributed. Add in your shortening or lard and butter pieces and use a pastry blender or fork to incorporate until it resembles coarse meal. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and vinegar then add it to your dry ingredients and mix until everything comes together into a cohesive ball. Wrap this ball of dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes before rolling out. When ready to use your dough, roll it out on a floured surface until it is roughly 12 inches in diameter. Place this rolled-out dough into an ungreased 9-inch deep dish pie pan then set aside while you prepare your filling.

Making The Filling
The next step is making the delicious pecan filling that will go inside our crust. To make this filling we will need 1 cup of granulated sugar, 3 tablespoons brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 cup corn syrup (light or dark), 1/3 cup melted salted butter, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 3 whole eggs beaten until smooth, and heaping one cup of chopped pecans.

In a large bowl combine both sugars with the salt then mix together thoroughly using an electric mixer on medium speed for about 2 minutes or until everything is well combined. Add in your corn syrup followed by melted butter and vanilla extract then continue mixing on medium speed for another 2 minutes or so until everything is mixed together well again with no clumps remaining in the batter. Finally add your beaten eggs then mix one final time for about 2 minutes more until everything is creamy with no clumps remaining in the mixture then stir in your chopped pecans using a spatula or wooden spoon before pouring this mixture into your prepared pie shell from earlier.

Now that you have both your prepared crust and its delicious filling, it's time to put it all together!

Preheat your oven to 375°F then bake this beautiful masterpiece for 50 minutes or until golden brown on top. When finished baking, let cool completely before slicing and serving. Enjoy!

Whether you serve this as part of Thanksgiving dinner or just because you're craving something sweet, this classic Southern dessert won't disappoint!
