Allergy Season Got You Down? Here’s What Your Eyes Can Expect This Spring

With spring around the corner, we can look forward to the birds chirping, flowers blooming, and warmer weather. However, unfortunately with the season comes allergies. Many of us suffer from runny noses, sneezing fits and puffy eyes caused by allergies. But while allergies are no fun, you can still enjoy the outdoor beauty that spring has to offer! In this post, we’ll explore how to keep your eyes healthy during allergy season so you can enjoy your time in nature.

Allergens & Eye Health
The most common allergens that irritate our eyes are pollens from trees, grasses and weeds. These tiny particles are light enough to be carried away by the wind and when they come into contact with our eyes, it triggers allergic reactions like watery or itchy eyes. The best way to minimize the effects of pollen is to avoid exposure as much as possible; for example staying indoors on windy days or wearing a hat when outdoors. If you know certain areas or activities trigger your allergies, try avoiding these places and activities until allergy season passes.

Eye Drops & Other Options
If you do find yourself suffering from redness or itchiness due to seasonal allergies, using eye drops that contain antihistamines or decongestants may help reduce symptoms such as redness or itchiness while also providing lubrication. If over-the-counter drops don’t work for you then make an appointment with your ophthalmologist who can provide medication specifically tailored to your individual needs and recommend other ways to manage allergies such as taking oral antihistamines if needed.

Sunglasses & Facial Hair
Sunglasses are not just fashion accessories; they actually serve a purpose - protection! When outdoors in the sun, wear sunglasses that wrap around your face so pollen doesn’t enter through the sides of your glasses. If you have facial hair like a beard or mustache, be sure to wash them regularly since pollen particles tend to get stuck there more often than not!

Although allergy season can make us feel miserable at times, there are still plenty of ways we can protect our eyes from allergens and other irritants this spring season! By being mindful of potential allergens in our environment and arming ourselves with protective gear like sunglasses and hats when necessary as well as using eye drops or medications if needed - we can still enjoy all that spring has to offer without having our allergic reaction get in our way! So don’t let allergies stop you from enjoying what nature has brought us this beautiful season!
